My very first child was born in 2005 and as a young mother I was genuinely not sure which way I ought to go with selecting nappies for my valuable bundle. My mother applied cloth nappies with all 3 of her children and I grew up just realizing that I would use cloth with my young children when they came along. What I did not know was just how confusing the complete Cloth Diaper method would turn out to be.
What is an AIO, an AI2 or a typical cloth nappy? Really should I use a Modern Fitted Cloth Nappy or a regular square nappy? Decisions, decisions!!
I started out buying a pack of coloured square cloth nappies that have to have to be folded just before each and every use. These are great, but I did obtain that on a newborn they seemed to be rather bulky. You also want to make a decision if you will use Pins (a bit daunting to a new mum) or a tool like a Snappy to safe the diaper once it is fitted on baby.
Then I decided to attempt the fitted cloth nappy. These are a cloth nappy that is already shaped ready for use, the exact same shape as a disposable nappy. WOW, these are just so easy to use, even the Daddies can do these cloth nappy changes! Most secure with 2 or far more strips of Velcro. Then I discovered the AIO nappy. AIO stands for All In 1 (this also took me a when to work out). This indicates that the nappy is created with a waterproof layer either inside the nappy or the outside layer of fabric is waterproof, often occasions PUL is made use of to accomplish this. These are THE greatest idea, they are just like working with disposable nappies in that they are shaped, waterproof and you do not have to have anything added to safe them.
I tried the All in Two (AI2) nappies as effectively. They are the fitted cloth diaper without having the added waterproofing layer of PUL inside, so these call for a cover to waterproof them, hence the All in Two pieces.
I used the AIO nappies for quite a although but there are so several brands out there and I just could not come across the a single diaper with all of the fantastic points that I was seeking for. So I took a giant leap and started out on my trusty Janome and whipped up a prototype with all of the functions that I wanted in a nappy. Many designs and bolts of material later and I finally had a single that I was delighted with.
I decided that I had to have a diaper that was waterproof, they are just so simple and you never need to have any additional covers or gear with you to change the nappy. Hence, I placed a layer of PolyUrethane Lamenate (PUL) inside the diaper. I was also unhappy with Velcro, it scratches baby’s skin, catches on Mum’s clothing and shock horror, child essentially learns very quickly how to undo the velcro on their personal! So I developed a diaper with Snaps on it which in fact allows the nappy to fit for so considerably longer. I put three snaps on either side so that the nappy grows with infant, as bub gets bigger, just move along to the next press stud snap, very simple. I now had a diaper that was generally a one size fits all. (My daughter wore hers until she was potty trained at 16 months).
cloth nappy library was also dissatisfied with the absorbency that I was receiving from most fitted cloth nappies on the marketplace, so I developed the diaper with layers of super absorbent bamboo wadding, cotton wadding, hemp and towelling in the interior of the nappy. I also decided to use fabrics that had been great on my daughters skin as she had mild eczema. I now use hemp, bamboo, cotton towelling and flannel to make the nappies.
I gave birth to my son mid 2008 and he has not known a day without wearing his cloth nappies, I have all sorts of prints and styles so he gets all the boyish vehicles, camo print, lions, tractors and so on. My daughter wore all the girly prints like butterflies, kittens, pooh bear, jelly beans, flowers and so on. I even started embroidering the diapers with baby’s name, cute sayings like “I did not ask to be Born this Cute” and funny ones like “Warning- Toxic Gas” on the butt. I now get orders for personalised diapers with bubs nickname or offered name along with a fitting picture. The choices are endless.
Using Cloth nappies is significantly much better for child, especially if they have skin that is sensitive to heat, rashes etc. Cloth nappies are improved for the atmosphere and for so significantly greater for the wallet. Did you know child will use about 6000 disposable nappies in 2 years, costing you over $2500 and performing endless damage to the environment?
